The compulsory education mathematics curriculum standard (2011) has put forward that the junior middle school mathematics classroom teaching should be designed from the perspective of students, the teaching content should close to the students' real life and the organization of curriculum content should attach importance to the teaching process. Except for the traditional instruction mode, to explore independently, hands-on practice with the cooperation and communication are also important mathematics learning methods. The essay realizes the situation that since the new curriculum standard put into effect, most of researchers have paid their attention to inquiry learning teaching. Nevertheless few researchers focus on the question that whether the selection of content of effective inquiry learning is feasible or no.Based on the different subjects in the main links of inquiry learning, this essay divides inquiry learning into teacher guide inquiry, students' autonomous inquiry and fully open exploration using the approaches of literature research, case analysis, questionnaire, interviews and so on. According to this classification, the author earnestly investigated the feasibility of the selection of effective content in inquiry learning and summarized the basic characteristics of different types of inquiry learning contents which had been tested through practice.
