STEM education refers to a multi-disciplinary education including Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics.STEM education aims to "designing and exploring the approaches of science to solve the scientific technological issues",that is,students can acquire scientific knowledge and pick up the engineering design or technical means by using the problem-solved-driven and student-centered teaching methods,which comprehensively enhance students' knowledge,ability and emotional in core qualities.The content for middle school geography teaching is strongly comprehensive,involving science,technology,engineering and mathematics and so on.Exploring the STEM education concept applied in middle school geography teaching can promote the reformation of geography teaching methods in middle schools,improve the teaching ability of geography teachers,extend classroom teaching,stimulate students' interest in learning geography and enhance students' comprehensive accomplishment.This paper mainly discussed about how to apply the concept of STEM education in geography teaching of middle school by using the literature analysis method and combining with the design of lesson plan about geography teaching.First of all,from the perspective of the characteristics of geography,Geography Curriculum Standards and teaching contents in middle schools,geographical science which is comprehensive,practical and social,is consistent with the integration of STEM disciplines,whose aim is to train students to solve problems and the other educational concepts.The concept of Geography Curriculum Standards also fits the STEM education concept.The content of geography teaching in middle school includes scientific literacy,technical literacy,engineering literacy and mathematical literacy of STEM.Therefore,STEM education concept in the middle school geography teaching has the foundation of application course and content.Secondly,through the study of the existed theories and cases of STEM education,the principle of STEM education philosophy teaching was put forward,and the general teaching flow chart about STEM education implementation was designed.STEM teaching process includes teachers who prepare for STEM before teaching,the design of teaching problem situation,problem analysis,problem solving design and analysis,summary and evaluation.And according to teaching principles and processes,teaching cases have been designed.Finally,the author sums up some questions which may encountered in the middle school geography teaching,such as the lack of teachers being familiar with STEM education,the insufficiency of school geography experiment teaching resources,the classroom organization is more difficult,the evaluation standard is hard to grasp,the practicality of geography teaching activity module is bad,which are the five aspects of problems equivalently.In view of these problems,this paper puts forward some counter measures: the establishment of STEM middle school geography teacher training platform,the government increase policy support and capital investment,giving full consideration to the psychological characteristics of students,the formation of STEM middle school geography of the timely feedback mechanism and strengthening the excavation of geography teaching textbooks.
