STEM education is the abbreviation of science,technology,engineering and mathematics.It emphasizes the combination of multi-disciplinary knowledge to form an organic whole,in order to better cultivate students' innovative spirit and practical ability.Because of the outstanding effect of STEM education on talent training,it has been rapidly promoted in the world.Geography is a comprehensive and strong subject,which can be well combined with STEM education.Applying STEM education to geography teaching in senior high school is a new attempt of geography teaching reform under the new curriculum reform.It is helpful to promote the formation of students' core accomplishment and train innovative talents for the development of the country.Firstly,through literature research,this paper reviews the current research situation of STEM education at home and abroad,and summarizes the concept,characteristics and theoretical basis of STEM education.By using the method of questionnaire,this paper makes a questionnaire survey on senior high school students and geography teachers,finds out the existing problems in geography teaching,and analyzes the necessity of applying STEM education to geography teaching in senior high schools.After that,with the help of literature research,this paper expounds the principle of applying STEM education to senior high school geography teaching and tries to design the STEM teaching flowchart which is suitable for senior high school geography teaching.Processes include clarifying teaching tasks and teaching analysis,creating situations,asking questions or projects,and establishing Research topic,cooperative inquiry,conclusion display and summary evaluation.Based on the flow chart,the case of geography teaching in senior high school is designed.Taking the students of Grade One of Pulandian Senior High School as the research object,the practical research of STEM education in geography teaching in senior high school is carried out,and the teaching effect is tested.That is to say,two parallel classes are selected to test the learning effect,and the test results are analyzed.and the test results were analyzed.1.Compared with traditional geography teaching,the application of STEM education in high school geography teaching is helpful to promote students' interest in learning,avoid mechanical learning,and better grasp the knowledge and skills required by curriculum standards.2.Compared with traditional geography teaching,the application of STEM education and geography teaching in senior high school highlight the main position of students in learning,improve students' ability of cooperative inquiry,practical design and operation,express and communicate,and so on.Promote the formation of students' geographical core literacy,cultivate students' creative spirit and practical ability.3.Compared with the traditional geography teaching,the application of STEMeducation and geography teaching in senior high school can help students to have a deeper understanding of the geography knowledge they have learned and establish the consciousness of using multi-disciplinary knowledge to solve problems in their lives.This research combines STEM education with high school geography teaching practice,and enriches the application research of STEM education in senior high school geography teaching.The purpose of this paper is to provide research data for relevant scholars and to provide reference for geography teachers to understand STEM education and carry out STEM education.
