| English teaching design is an essential part of English teaching in junior high school.A well-prepared English teaching design encourages English teachers to do better in English classroom teaching.Moreover,it provides English teachers much confidence because it shows the teaching objectives,teaching methods,teaching aids,teaching procedures and teaching materials in advance,which benefits English teachers from predicting what will happen in English teaching.In other words,an English teaching design is of great importance for English teachers.English Subject Core Competencies includes four parts: linguistic competence,cultural disposition,thinking quality and learning abilities.English teaching design should be based on it.In other words,each teaching step ought to center around the cultivation of English Subject Core Competencies of the students.However,English teaching design in junior high school which is based on English Subject Core Competencies still has some problems in practical teaching design because of several countable factors.Taking into consideration English Subject Core Competencies,the author takes text analysis,classroom observation and interview as the instruments,and collects the data via analyzing 15 English teaching designs(six for listening & speaking lesson and nine for reading & writing lesson),having ten classroom observations and interviewing five English teachers in junior high school.By doing so,the author finds out the problems of current English teaching design in junior high school: a.It is language-knowledge-based.b.It is incomplete.c.The emotional objective is far-fetched.In addition,the author explores the reasons that lead to the above problems: a.The influence of exam-oriented education is the first reason.b.Some English teachers do not think highly of English teaching design.c.English Subject Core Competencies is a new concept for many teachers,thus,they are not familiar with it.Therefore,the author offers some pedagogical suggestions to try to solve those problems: a.English teachers in junior high school should learn English Subject Core Competencies actively.b.English teachers in junior high school should be concerned about the internal logic and relevance of English teaching design,and pay attention to the integration of internal knowledge structure.c.Teachingobjectives should combine with English Subject Core Competencies in an English teaching design.d.The designed teaching activities should connect with the English Subject Core Competencies.Based on the analysis and suggestions above,two types of English teaching design samples are also provided so as to make those pedagogical suggestions better understood.In conclusion,this paper is of value for English teachers in junior high school to some extent.However,there are some limitations.Therefore,the further studies can be researched by professional staff in the future. |
