The Chinese language teaching in public high school,Philippines,as the real overseas Chinese teaching,will not be developed without the local Chinese teachers.However,the Chinese teaching in the public schools is still at the beginning stage,and the local Chinese teachers are not the Chinese majors.Their Chinese language level is generally low,and teaching methods are not rich enough,and they don't attach much importance to culture teaching,lacking sense of self professional development and reflective teaching practice,ignoring unity and cooperation,etc.The research on the professional development of local Chinese teachers is to promote the development of Chinese teaching successfully in the Philippines.The research methods include questionnaire and interview.The reasons for these problems in the local Chinese teachers' professional development are that they are not Chinese majors,and they do not have much time to learn Chinese language systematically,and require low professional competence,and their sense of Chinese cultural identity is not strong,and even no much awareness of Chinese professional development.Besides they have heavy workload,etc.Therefore,local Chinese teachers should improve knowledge and language skills,establish the concept of lifelong learning,who should refer to International Chinese teacher Standards and strengthen peer communication and improve requirements of professional ability.They should strengthen the cultural identity,fully understand the close relationship between culture and language,and enhance the consciousness of self-professional development.In addition,they should carry out teaching research and improve teaching reflection,and set up professional ideal.Training institutions should strengthen the pre-service education,improve the follow-up training,and optimize training system,build regional training center.Schools should vigorously support Chinese teaching,reduce their workload of other subjects appropriately and improve teaching hardware equipment.Relevant education departments can help build a community of teachers and set up a platform for teachers' professional development,and improve the evaluation system of teacher management,and promote the evaluation results and salary.
