English teachers' professional identity is the degree of acceptance and agreement of their teaching profession and their roles, which helps them perceive and evaluate all aspects of their profession actively.Good professional identity is beneficial to improving their professional and teaching quality. In 2006,China launched "The Plan of the Special Post for Teacher in Rural Schools at Compulsory Education Stage",which is one of effective means for the development of teaching quality in rural areas. With this new driving force to rural schools' teaching development, the special-post teachers'professional identity has won more and more public and researchers' attention.Nevertheless, most researches have concentrated on special-post English teachers as a group, but few have focused on the differences between special-post and ordinary-post novice English teachers. The study adopted the instruments of interview combined with questionnaire to make an in-depth investigation of the two groups' English teachers' professional identity, attempting to answer the following three questions:(1)Does there exist significant difference between special-post and ordinary-post novice English teachers' professional identity in Guangxi?(2)Does there exist significant difference between special-post and ordinary-post novice English teachers' professional identity in terms of the four specific dimensions?(3)Does there exist significant difference between the factors influencing the two groups' English teachers' professional identity? The findings illustrate that(1)the degree of special-post and ordinary-post English teachers' professional identity is at a high level, but ordinary-post English teachers got the higher score.(2)There exist significant differences in English teachers' professional identity between special-post and ordinary-post in Guangxi.Among the four dimensions, except the professional behavior inclination, significant differences exist in the other dimensions.(3)Besides,all the three factors:biography, social environment and teaching context can affect teachers' professional identity. And among them, biography is the most significant one. However, there isn't significant difference between the special-post and ordinary-post teachers in terms of the three influencing factors. On the basis of the research results, this study put forward some countermeasures and suggestions on improving the level of teachers' professional identity and narrowing the differences between special-post and ordinary-post English teachers from the perspective of teachers themselves, schools and social groups.
