| The Chinese language discipline working group,as a discipline-specific grassroots educational research unit, plays an important role in leading and organizing the teaching of Chinese language, carrying out educational research, and promoting the professional development of teachers. However, for a long time, the professional development activities among the Chinese language discipline working group have fallen below expectations in that Chinese language teachers are struggling with both academic morale and teaching performance. What might be the underlying causes? To investigate the causes of the problem and further seek a solution, the present study,on the basis of domestic and international literature, adopted cultural studies as a research perspective.Using questionnaires, daily observations, and individual interviews, the researcher collected data about the current status of professional activities among the elementary Chinese language discipline working groups.Through data analysis and reflection, the researcher attributes the problem primarily to the Lack of Cultural Change. The researcher subsequently approached the problem from four cultural dimensions—materialistic, institutional, behavioral, and spiritual cultures—and further proposed a solution toward high-quality professional development of elementary Chinese language discipline working group. The proposed solution involves shifting the focus of school cultural building toward the grassroots,system-wide enhancement, and the pathway reorientation of faculty cultural development.Under the proposed framework, the cultural development of discipline working groups should be grounded in the system-wide enhancement of organizational functions, management systems, individual thinking and behavior,by which individual teachers will conscientiously seek cultural growth, groups of teachers will achieve cultural synergy, and school culture will lead the professional development of all faculty members. Thus,in a real sense, starts the journey of cultural change in elementary Chinese language discipline working group development. |
