The book Appreciation of Foreign Novels has been popular and highly praised by high school teachers and students since 2007. Since that year, foreign literature teaching received increased attention. More research scholars and diversified research topics and methods have arisen which is meaningful to the development of literary appreciation, and the teaching of foreign literature. After the publication of the Appreciation of Foreign Novels, there has been over 100 articles and thesis around the book. Most of them are focused on a single aspect of the book itself or the teaching methods. It is very rare to see a research around the integrity of "text - teacher - student" on the book.This paper studies Chinese Teaching Classes based on the High School Language Curriculum Standards with some guidance from several relevant curriculum theories and teaching theories. It contains both theoretical study and practice research as the methodology. Classroom observation and comparative analysis are also adopted in this study.This paper contains four parts. The first part is the introduction which elaborates the research background including the main content of other articles and thesis, the description of the object of study, the significance of this study, the research methodology and so on. The second part analyzes the present situation of the book Appreciation of Foreign Novels which includes the authors' concepts, the present situation of teaching and current status of using this book. The third part is the study around teaching methods for the teachers which is divided into three sections: Section 1) have a clear understanding of the teaching objectives, summarize on various types, and conduct comparative reading; Section 2) closely following the characteristics of the text to raise questions and inspire students to extend their thinking; Section 3) be aware of the actual situation of students' reading and enrich activities outside the classroom. The fourth part of this paper is very innovative because it studies the learning method of students.Through a large number of teaching and observation practice, the author has created methods such as understanding the exotic cultural background, intensive reading with notes, teasing out key information by students themselves, group study, creative writing and so on. These methods provides hints to students, introduces better reading materials to students, increase students' interests in readying and improves students' understanding of the reading materials.This paper, based upon the book Appreciation of Foreign Novels, reviews a number of good case studies from the recent articles and the teaching practices and experiences from several key high schools in different provinces.Some original lesson plans and classroom records, students' writtings are examples from the author as a front-line teacher. This paper will provide more practical and expanded teaching methods for the foreign literature teaching in our high school. In addition, it will motivate students to learn in a more innovative and more efficient way. Moreover, this paper will provide suggestions in the future revisions of the teaching materials.
