| Education is a fundamental task for the coming generation.Teachers’ quality determines the quality of education.Especially high school education,which nurtures high talents for college,takes an important part in the national education system.Foreign language education is an essential matter of quality-education,which will benefit the students a lot when it comes to entering a good college,applying for a good occupation,or even in their entire life.Young teachers,as the backbone of the teachers’group,are the hope of education and the main force of the long-term development of school.However,lack of expenditure and too much work make them have few chances to go for further study outside their schools.Their professional development depends on their own school.Therefore,the survey of school-based professional development of senior high school young English teachers is of great significance.Combing the related theory of teachers’ professional development with the author’s own experiences,the author conduct the survey by classroom observation,interview and questionnaire.During the last semester,the author observed 40 lessons,22 of which were given by the young English teachers in high school and 18 of which were from the trainees of Hunan Normal University.By observing the students and teachers and recording the steps and methods of the lessons,the author made preparations for the following study.Besides,Through the form of questionnaire,44 young English teachers from four senior high school of Yiyang City were investigated.From the aspects of professional development,awareness and the ways of professional development,the present situation of the high school English teacher school-based professional development were summarized.In general,high school young English teachers attach little importance to improving the students’ ability to use the language,especially listening and speaking.Also,facing the problem of knowledge narrow and technical obsolescence,they lack creativity in their teaching.Though eager to improve themselves,however,lack of money,too much work and the pressure from the college entrance examination make them mainly depend on the school-based professional development,which is actually formalized.And teachers benefit little form it. |
