In our country,vocational education is being promoted now.Reforms in vocational education aim at cultivating skilled laborers of high quality.English is an important basic course in secondary vocational schools,which plays a unique role in students’ cultural literacy and improvement of comprehensive capacity.And about the relationship between English teaching and profession knowledge in secondary vocational schools,now more and more English teaching workers have started to concern and make researches.How to combine the English teaching materials with professionalism? Take Image Design Major as an example,for its specialty in Jiaojiang NO.2 Vocational School,this paper makes a further analysis of the combination of English teaching materials with Image Design Major.First,I give an introduction of this paper.I explored the reality background and significance on the research on the need of the development Image Design and the deep reform of vocational education.After that,I review the development of school-based materials at home and abroad.The conclusion from the base of many researches is made.In secondary vocational school developing English school-based materials with major is the very need.The second part is about many surveys and deep analysis on the present situation of the English teaching and learning and the present English textbooks in the secondary school.The results from surveys and analysis make us feel much worried.Thus lead to the topic of the relationship between English teaching materials and profession knowledge.The specialty of each major should and must be highly regarded in our process of teaching.The third part is that I narrated the necessity and importance of the combination of Image Design major from the view of practice and theory research.In this part the thesis also proposes the theoretical foundation and principles of school-based materials development.The fourth part is about the practical compilation of English school-based materials on Image Design major.Some detailed descriptions on the research are also given.Then the procedures of developing school-based materials have to be followed.The last part is the evaluation of the English school-based materials about Image Design major from the view of teachers and students in the schools.Finally,It comes my conclusion about the paper.Developing school-based materials for English with a certain major,I think it’s just the one way to improve how we can teach English well in secondary vocational school.But I expect there are some benefits to promote the reform of English teaching by my research.
