Calligraphy Teaching Status Research In Burma’s Eastern Confucius Classroom

Abstract/Summary:
Four periods have been experienced of the Chinese language education in Myanmar.It includes the peak,the low ebb,and the thirty years’ interruption in South Myanmar centered in Rangoon when the policy of nationalization of it trapped in hibernation.Even,the later policy of assimilation brought the change from overseas Chinese education to the Chinese language education.And the change mainly can be seen in the audiences with the cultural multilingual context.Just for that,the Chinese language education in Myanmar converted from traditional national language education to the second language education.By which,the language acquisition and culture teaching which have the equal status in the Chinese language education in Myanmar have to pay attention to the characteristics of the second language learners and have to combine the goals of it to make position on the nature of the courses of it.The body of oriental Confucius classes in Myanmar where the writer has stayed is a Chinese language school with the nature of second language education.It can be classified into education with the record of formal schooling on the phase of basic education which stresses on the teaching and learning of Chinese and the acquisition and diffusion of Chinese culture.Especially,the school pays attention to the primary students,and set calligraphy as one of the required courses.For which,there are two reasons.The one is there is no independent course of Chinese Character teaching.The other is that calligraphy as a part of Chinese culture can be beneficial to the quality-oriented education for that culture education is a traditional goal of the Chinese language education.On the basis of the new change of the Chinese language education,this paper made researches and analysis on the cultural course-calligraphy teaching set up for phase of primary education by the body of Confucius classes in the center of language and business in Myanmar.The whole paper can be divided into four parts.including the background,the status,the dilemma and the future prospect of calligraphy teaching.Because of that it has not been listed in national education system in Myanmar,The Chinese language education get no favor of the governmental policies.Therefore,these schools present the situation of shortage of teachers,facilities,and textbooks commonly.And with new changes of the Chineselanguage education,the calligraphy teaching in Oriental Confucius Classes is facing the dilemma.On seeing that,this paper gave accurate positioning for Oriental Confucius Classes through studying the connotation of modern Chinese language education--the calligraphy teaching with the characteristic of second language education.And on this basis,the paper summarized the dilemma in this new period faced by the calligraphy teaching in Oriental Confucius Classes and proposed some constructive suggestions to its future prospect after making researches and analysis on the current situation of it.By writing this paper,the writer hopes give some favor to calligraphy teaching in Myanmar.
