This article mainly studied the question of teaching Chinese characters to zero-based Thai junior students in the context of Chinese international promotion going further and better quality.The author directed at this question put forward some strategies for teaching Chinese characters on the basis of the case study of Phuket Muang Thalang School's Chinese characters teaching,following the zero-based Thai junior students' laws of Chinese characters' acquisition,summarizing the experience and lessons of Chinese characters teaching in Thai public high schools and referring the Chinese characters teaching strategies of Muang Thalang School.The Chinese characters teaching strategies advocate that the teaching aims are passing HSK1 and HSK2 test,the teaching contents are those Chinese characters used in test papers,the textbook is “Experiencing Chinese”,the exercise book is Tin Word Format and the teaching method is character focus recognition based on Chinese Stem-Deriving Instruction under the teaching mode of spoken Chinese and characters are taught together.The first step of character focus recognition based on Chinese Stem-Deriving Instruction is selecting the basic characters what are going to be taught first.There are total of 122 characters include high-frequency ones used in HSK1 and 2 tests,easy ones,strong characters-building and word formation ability ones and representative ones.Then teach other 290 nonbasic characters based on the relationship with those basic characters.During the teaching,many skills should be used,such as tracing the source of the characters' pattern,cultural interpretation,and common studies on Chinese characters,direct translation,riddles,tongue twister of similar form characters and graphical method.This article emphasizes teaching Chinese characters to the zero-based Thai junior students should follow systematicness,motivation,and culture those characteristics of Chinese characters,and accord with Thai students' Chinese characters acquisition rules.
