As far as specialty provision in institute of higher education,environmental design has become the main subject among art majors in each college and university.However,it becomes the primary concern of environmental design teachers and scholars to figure out an appropriate teaching mode,and cultivate high-quality talents that meet social demands by combining advanced teaching concepts and teaching practices that are brought in to China.This topic is selected on the basis of various confusions that emerge in the process of nurturing talents in environmental design major of general colleges and universities,as well as reflection on current teaching mode.At present,environmental design education in key colleges and universities in China has gradually been integrated with international schools.One reason is that our country has attached great importance to higher education.Besides,these schools possess advantageous geographical location and abundant resources.For disadvantaged general colleges and universities,they relatively lag behind in education development.The paper mainly studies application approach,characteristics,effects,etc.of open teaching mode of environmental design major in general colleges and universities.Taking China West Normal University as an example,it carries out in-depth investigation into teaching mode of environmental design major in general colleges and universities in China.Then it further analyzes and explains development status of open teaching mode of environmental design major,followed by some constructive advices and suggestions for existing problems.Thus,the paper falls into the following four parts:Part One: introduction.By referring to related materials,the paper sorts out and analyzes purpose and significance of open teaching mode.In addition,it points out status quo of implementing open teaching mode in environmental design major of general colleges and universities,and then proposes research questions.Part Two: it illustrates development status of environmental design major in general colleges and universities in China,and examines its deficiencies.Part Three: characteristics,approaches,and effects of open teaching mode of environmental design major.Part Four: it is based on analysis of course teaching status of environmental design major of Fine Arts College in China West Normal University.By combining case of room design course of Fine Arts College in China West Normal University,it carries out specific analysis and proposes reform strategies in order to better solve problems existing in environmental design teaching in general colleges and universities,and to gradually explore a new way for open teaching mode.The paper values combination of both theoretical analysis and case studies.Through collection of Internet resources as well as materials from various books,journals and magazines,etc.and by field survey in China West Normal University,the author gathers first-hand data related to the research for analysis,study,comparison,and proposes primary suggestions.
