Discovering History From Textbooks-the Figure Of Chiang Kai-shek In The History Textbooks Of People's Education Publishing Press

After the foundation of the People's Republic of China on the first of October in 1949,the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang in Taiwan had experienced many things from tough relationship in the past to the state of communicating peacefully.Chiang Kai-shek,the leader of Kuomintang in the past,who is one of most important persons in the modern and contemporary Chinese history,inextricably linked with the new China established by Communist Party of China.After the foundation of New China,the Communist Party of China became the sole ruling party.As the ruling party,how would the textbook from the Chinese Communist Party describe the historical figure of Chiang Kai-shek?People's Education Publishing House was established in December 1,1950.Since its inception,its mission is to provide textbooks throughout the country.It is the truth that The People's Education Publishing House has made great contributions to the educational cause of New China.Even though the system of textbook selection had changed,the utilization rate of textbooks published by the People's Education Publishing House still occupies a large share in the education market.Since People's Education Press is directly led by The Communist Party of China,studying the history textbooks published by the People's Education Publishing House can visually saw the Chinese Communist Party's evaluation of Chiang Kai-shek's figure.From the historical perspective,textbooks published by the People's Education Publishing House are significantly coherent and easy to study.Through the research,we found that the historical textbooks of different historical periodsdescribed the figure of Chiang Kai-shek dissimilarly,but the general trend was from the negative criticism to the objective evaluation.This thesis also explored the deep political and historical reasons behind the change of Chiang Kai-shek 's figure in history textbook of PEP version.First of all,the changes of Chiang Kai-shek's figure in the textbooks are inseparable from the changes in the relationship between the KMT and the CCP.Second,the change of the object of education in New China,from the initial political service for the proletariat to serve the socialist modernization drive,also contribute to a more objective historical figure of Chiang Kai-shek in textbooks.Last but not least,there is another reason that the context of historiography has changed in the period of Cold War and After-Cold-War.As the historiography continues to break through the "pan-politicized" prison,historical textbooks which describe the figure of Chiang Kai-shek are more objective.
