It has been widely acknowledged that world-class universities play a pivotal role in one country' s economic and social development.Historically,the center for higher education has transferred from The United Kingdom to Germany,then to The United States of America.Accordingly,higher education has greatly promoted the advancement of The United States of America,making it the center of technology and economy in the world.Therefore,the research on Chinese and American Elite Universities could provide inspirations for national strategic development and the development for World-Class Universities in China.This research conducts a comparative study on admission system of Chinese and American Elite Universities.Chinese C9 Universities emphasize on educational equity,which could be seen from the principle that it is regarded as equal that students should only be admitted based on scores of standardized test in case of any actions lacking of transparency.Also,launching special ways of enrolling students from rural areas may be at the expense of leveling down university's academic excellence.While,American counterparts stress on educational efficiency rather than educational equity by adopting the admission ideal of meritocracy,which advocates students are supposed to be admitted by their outstanding capacities rather than personal backgrounds.Therefore,Harvard University would offer grant to students from low social and economic statuses rather than compromise concerning decreasing academic standards.Hence,Chinese C9 Universities ought to be aware of their national responsibility of selecting and cultivating outstanding talents for national rejuvenation and advancement of the country in the process of the construction of World-Class Universities.In order to achieve the goal,Chinese C9 Universities should emphasize more on educational efficiency,breaking the shackle of single admission criteria of scores of standardized tests,discovering more flexible and multiple ways of enrolling diverse talents,and fighting for more university autonomy by taping more methods of financing and gradually constructing long-term and comprehensive admission evaluation system as well as sound societal supervisory mechanism.
