English has become a basic language skill in modern society.It is also an essential subject in the major examinations in China.English reading plays an important role in English learning.It is the basic of other English skills.What's more,under the exam-oriented education,reading scores take a high proportion in the test.So how to improve English reading teaching has been concerned by more researchers.With the development of new curriculum reform,it has new requirements for English teaching class.Teachers should build high-efficient class and change the teacher-centered class into the student-centered teaching mode.The English class should inspire students to learn English and improve students' autonomous learning ability.The design of reading class should focus on students' reading level and help them form proper reading habits.This thesis makes an empirical study of teaching reading with learning guidelines in junior middle school.The author does an action research on teaching with the help of learning guidelines to see whether the learning guidelines are effective and practical in teaching of reading.The research tries to investigate the following hypotheses by conducting this experimental research.1.Students can increase their interests in English reading with learning guidelines.2.Students can promote their autonomous learning ability with the help of learning guidelines.3.Students can master more reading strategies and skills while reading with learning guidelines.4.Students can get higher marks with the help of learning guidelines.The author takes two classes in Grade eight in Hua Xi NO.4 Experimental Middle School in Hua Xi District in Gui Yang as research subjects and teaches reading with learning guidelines for one semester.After and before the experiment,the author uses the questionnaires,the interview and the tests to gather the data for evaluation.From the results of data collected,the author gets the conclusion that teaching with learning guidelines can promote students' autonomous learning ability.This teaching mode can effectively improve students' English abilities.Students can explore knowledge through their own learning.The questionnaires and the interview show that students' have changed their reading habits and become more interested in reading learning.However,in the practice of teaching with learning guidelines,the author finds there are still some problems existing in teaching.At the same time,the empirical study also has some limitations.The researcher will draw on the academic and teaching experience to do the future research.
