Efficiency Researchof Different Types Of Family Farms

The emergence and development of the family farm in China conform to the development trend of the market economy and the needs of the development of modern agriculture in China.Through the investigation on the efficiency of different types of family farm,it can provide the basis for the management decision of family farmers and the government policy.This paper used DEA method to calculate the technical efficiency,pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency ofthe overall sample and different type sample,which based on 157 family farms of 13 counties in Zhejiang province,then proposed five hypothesis of theinfluenceoffamily farm efficiency and used Tobit model to analysis these factors,finally proposed some relevant countermeasures.The main conclusions were as follows:(1)The overall results showed that the average technical efficiencyof the overall family farms was 0.480,and it is mainly caused by the low pure technical efficiency.The mean technical efficiency of fruit family farm which was the highest 0.576,the mean technical efficiency of grain and oil family farm which was the lowest 0.314,the mean technical efficiency ofvegetable family farm was0.555,it may due to the effects of product characteristics and market competition.(2)The results based on product type show that,theaverage technical efficiency of the sample area of family farms was also low,the grain and oil family farms hadthe highest 0.684 mean technical efficiency and lower efficiency standards,it showed the efficiency gap between the internal was minimum.However,the vegetable family farms hadthe lowest 0.569 mean technical efficiency and the highest efficiency standards,it showedthe efficiency gap between the internal was maximum.(3)Household labors participated in farm business can reduce farm supervision cost and transaction cost deeply.The labor involved in a farm familyis more,the family farm technical efficiency level is higher.At the same time,family farmers received the relevant technical training,thetechnical efficiency level of family farm will be improved.(4)The effect of farmer's age to the technical efficiency of the three types of familyfarmswere not significant.The effect of farmer'seducation to the technical efficiency of cereal family farms and vegetable family farmswere significant positive effect,but it were not significant to fruit family farm.The effect of land fragmentation to the technical efficiency of cereal family farms and fruitfamily farmsweresignificant positive effect,but it were not significant to vegetable family farm.
