China's rapid economic growth provides a huge market space for the insurance companies, and also creates a favorable external environmentfor their development. At the same time, China's insurance companies face more fierce competition because of the low barriers to entry and the further opening of the insurance market. In front of opportunity and competition, it is likely to have a place in the fierce competitiononly by improving and perfecting the company's management level and increasing the its strength and competitive advantage.Performance management is the core of human resources management in enterprises, it is an important means of fulfilling strategic targets. Building a reasonable and effective performance management based on strategic orientation system enables a bridge betweenthe enterprise goals and employee performance, It helps to decompose the layers of the enterprise's strategies which elaborated to departments and employees for executing. It can clearly show the employee's contribution to the business objectives, and finally inspire the enthusiasm of the employees for the enterprise struggle. It improves the performance of the enterprise and the realization of the aim of the company strategic objectives. For insurance companies, the main advantage of competition is human resources.Only withe the superiority of human resources can we survive in the fierce competition. Thus, performance management is particularly important for insurance companies.This paper concludes some related concepts and theories of performance management, introduces several kinds of commonly used performance management tools andexpounds awhole process and basic principles forbuilding up an effective performance management system. Take G insurance company as a case, this paper analyzes its human resource management and performance assessment status, finds out the insufficient place. With reference to the complete system of performance management theory and the key performance indicators KPI, BSC and by making the company performance goals, reasonable design of performance indicators and strengthening the use of performance assessment results we achieve the optimization of G insurance company existing performance management system. And finally, it explores the possibility of setting up an independent efficient performance management system platform based on the Internet and relied on company's existing Internet operating management platform and information technology.
