Manufacturing scale and goods exports in China has been ranked first in the world since 2013 after several decades of rapid development.At the same time,the technology structure of export products has undergone significant changes,and the proportion of high-tech products exports has been rising.However,we realize that high-tech industry of China,although,have formed international competitiveness in some areas,but its overall innovation efficiency is still weak and the core technology and high-end equipment depend highly on foreign trade.In addition,the proportion of processing trade in total exports of high-tech products makes exports complexity of high-tech products of China fail to improve actually.“The 13 th Five-Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China”(the 13 th Five-Year Plan as followed)also proposes to create new advantages in capital and technology-intensive industries in the field of foreign trade,and technology innovation will help achieve upgrade of high-end manufacturing.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the relationship between the innovation efficiency of high-tech industry and the export complexity.This paper focuses on the impact of innovation efficiency on export complexity.The main contents,methods and conclusions in this paper can be listed as follows.(1)In terms of measurement of innovation efficiency and export complexity.Complexity model of Hausman(2007)and Chen Xiaohua(2011)is modified to measure export complexity of high-tech industry in regional and industry level by adding lagged processing trade imports on basis of panel data of 30 provinces,municipalities and autonomous regions from 2002 to 2014,and regional innovation efficiency of high-tech industry is measured based on super-efficiency DEA model.The results show that:?The export complexity and innovation efficiency of the high-tech industry are declining in the east,middle and west,but the difference between central and western regions is not obvious;?In terms of industry,export complexity of computer and office equipment manufacturing and electronic and communication equipment manufacturing are the most of the high-tech industry.In the same time,considering the comparability of time and the efficiency difference of DMU,regional innovation efficiency of high-tech industry is estimated by super-efficiency DEA model.The results show that the overall efficiency of high-tech industry is low and DEA is not in a valid state.(2)Theoretical analysis framework is constructed to study the impact of innovation efficiency on the export complexity of high-tech industry.On the basis of this,fixed asset investment and natural resource endowment from the aspect of factor endowment,financial development and infrastructure from the aspect of internal driving factors,foreign direct investment from the aspect of external factor are chosen as the control variables,and financial development and trade openness as transition variables.Then,the dynamic panel model and the nonlinear panel smoothing transition regression model are constructed from national level to empirically analyze the linear and nonlinear effects of innovation efficiency on the export complexity of high-tech industry.Finally,from the regional perspective,the static panel model is constructed to analyze the regional differences of influence innovation efficiency has on the export complexity of high-tech industry.The main conclusions are as follows:?innovation efficiency,fixed assets investment,financial development,infrastructure and FDI can significantly promote the export complexity of high-tech industry.However,the natural resource endowment will hinder the export complexity of high-tech industry.In the nonlinear PSTR model,the impact of innovation efficiency on export complexity has a single threshold under the influence of financial development and trade openness.When trade openness is considered as transition variable,the influence of innovation efficiency on export complexity of high-tech industry is significantly higher than that of financial development as transiton variable.?There are significant differences among the degree of impact of innovation efficiency,natural resource endowment,fixed assets investment,financial development,infrastructure and FDI on the export complexity of high-tech industry.The effect of innovation efficiency on the export complexity of high-tech industry is increasing in eastern,central and western regions.(3)The corresponding policy recommendations from the level of market,the high-tech enterprise and the government based on the results of empirical analysis are put forward in this paper...
