Historical And Cultural Works Manchuria: Cradle Of Conflict (Chapter 7, Chapter 8) English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

This English-Chinese translation material is drawn from the seventh and eighth chapters of Manchuria: Cradle of Conflict written by an American sinologist named Owen Lattimore.The seventh chapter is mainly concerned with the development and exploitation of Manchuria in the process of Westernization in 1930 s,while the eighth chapter is involved with the military colonization,opium colonization,and Shantung tradition.The paper mainly poses difficulties in word meaning,syntactic translation and textual cohesion.Accordingly,based on the culture-loaded words and geographical name translation which we can't find in any dictionaries,the translator summarizes how to solve the difficulties.In terms of abundant syntactic structure,the translator analyzes word-order adjustment.Regarding the original text is cohered with different logical relationship,the translator summarizes splitting and Combination between different sentences.The author hopes to provide reference for translators of related texts,and enrich the history of northeast China,thus promote the development of the history research of northeast China.
