In 1991, with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the bipolar structure, five new regimes in Central Asia came onto the international political stage as independent political forces. Since the independence in 1991, five countries in Central Asia have demonstrated the vitality in the ancient Silk Road as new nations to the world. After the Cold War, the collapse of the Soviet Union brought about opportunities to the entrances of various social forces in all levels. Depending on its unique and important geopolitical, economic and strategic value and abundant resources, the Central Asia has increasingly become the hot game spot for various powers and regional forces. However, after the independence, the political, economic and social development of five central Asian countries is not ever successful. The ethnic problem has always been a prominent problem that regional economic and social development and stability in Central Asia have been faced with since ancient times. On the national distribution, the Central Asia owns obvious "fragmentation". More than one hundred nations live here. They blend mutually and affect each other. Conflicts and integrations develop simultaneously and crises go with the consociation. The national relationship is complex in the Central Asia. In Czar Russia and Soviet Union, national contradictions were extremely acute here and ethnic conflicts, crises or even bloodsheds happened frequently. In addition, negative factors caused by these conflicts spilled over into surrounding areas and affected the safety of the surrounding areas. Ethnic problems are still main factors to obstruct the cooperation and development between five countries after independence, therefore, the research on Central Asian ethnic issues have to be placed in a prominent position. With the integrated use of bibliometrics, this paper makes metrological statistics and analysis of 124 articles on Central Asian ethnic issues in China from 1991 to 2014. The research indicates the domestic research on ethnic problems in Central Asia has made remarkable progress and developed from nothing in research achievements, scientific researchers and research methods. It has presented a stepwise leap as a whole. However, Chinese researchers should realize problems which can not be ignored existing in the current field when being delighted.1. Low degree of journal professionalization and distinct regional differences2. Dense political implication of literature research content and single content structure3. Imbalanced researcher team structure and regional development4. Simplex research method, emphasize theories and underestimate practice5. Relatively low citing rate of foreign literature in references and lack of epochal characterThe good news is that it can be seen that the above problems have been changed positively in documents of the last five years. Increasingly more researchers appear to study under the perspective of ethnology, which has gradually changed the past situation with dense politics. The empirical methods begin to be brought into studies on Central Asian ethnic issues. More domestic areas go into the tide of study on the Central Asian national problems and research results have bloomed all over China. Through findings of the above characteristics, problems and trends, the author can sum up the domestic research on Central Asian ethnic issues during this period and determine its key development and differentiation directions, which can provide some assistance for readers or media to conduct intensive and purposeful consulting reading. In addition, the author also can measure its disciplinary characteristics, guide scientific researchers working in the field and predict its future development tendency.
