In school education,teachers’ teaching competence is the key of the teaching quality and the teaching effect,and in the school for mentally retarded,the teaching competence of teacher for differentiating instruction is the key to impact the development of the special needs children’s physical and mental.so,it is significance to research on teaching competence of teachers for differentiating instruction in school for mentally retarded.In this study using self-write <Teaching Competence of Teachers for Differentiating Instruction in School for Mentally Retarded>,The research object is the 44 full-time teachers from two schools for mentally retarded in Dalian,mading a detailed research on the ability to understanding of differentiating instruction,the ability to survey and evaluation of differentiating instruction,the ability to design of differentiating instruction,the ability to teaching of differentiating instruction and the ability to assessing of differentiating instruction.To discuss the overall and every dimensions level of teaching competence of teachers for differentiating instruction in school for mentally retarded,and compare differences.the conclusion:1.In the investigated school,the overall level of the teaching competence of teachers for differentiating instruction is the medium to high,at the same time,the ability to understanding of differentiating instruction is higher,the ability to teaching and assessing of differentiating instruction are the lower,the ability to evaluation and design of differentiating instruction are medium.2.Teaching competence of teachers for differentiating instruction in school for mentally retarded.he ability of teachers with highly educated is more higher than with low degree,the ability of teachers with normal background is more higher than with non-normal background.the ability of teachers with special educational background is more higher than with non special educational background.the class teachers’ ability is more higher than the other teachers;the ability of the older teacheris more than the younger.3.In the investigated school,the teachers can focus on the every mentally retarded,firmly believe it is necessary to carry out differentiating instruction in school for mentally retarded,however,it is not ideal in the proce of theory into practice and concepts into education.the suggests:1.The advice to the administrative department of education,2.The advice to the managers of the school for mentally retarded,3.The advice to the mentally retarded’s teachers.
