The map is the second language of geography,which is an indispensable tool for us to obtain the geographic information,distinguish the direction,plan the route and so on.In addition to the external,mental map,there is a "mental map" in each person's mind.The so-called mental map,that contains a variety of geographic information map or the actual space in the brain after proper generalization,a mind formed the impression to the effective storage and memory of various kinds of natural and human geography information.In the past,the study of map teaching has been focused on how to read and train the physical map,but not much of the mental map of the human mind.This paper discusses in theory and the formation mechanism of mental map storage structure in the mind,and then through the questionnaire survey way,understand the current situation of the students' mental map,in the summary of Chinese and foreign counterparts practice and reflect on their own teaching experience of 4 years on the basis of some help students construct mental map teaching strategies.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is introduction.This part introduces the background of this study,expounds the general situation of the domestic and foreign research on the mental map,points out the achievements and shortcomings of the research and the enlightenment to the subject.In addition,this paper introduces the research ideas and innovations.The second part is the theoretical basis of this paper,firstly,discusses the development in the mental map of the concept,and then introduces the characteristics of mental maps,influence factors and development stage etc.,finally introduces the construction of the theoretical foundation and mental map in geography teaching.The third part is the current situation of junior middle school students' mental map.According to the measurement method and the mental map of the Shanghai city middle school geography curriculum standards,measurement questionnaire compiled a mental map of the status quo,then conducted a sample survey of students.The results show that the mental map of the students is incomplete,inaccurate,and unsystematic.The fourth part is the focus of this paper to discuss how to construct and develop the students' mental map in daily geography teaching.This paper puts forward themental map of the students,improves the ability of the students' mental map building,enriches the students' mental map level through various ways,and constructs the mental map according to the map space cognition rule.These four stages are interrelated,top-down teaching process.The fifth part is the conclusion.This part introduces the achievements and problems of this study,and puts forward some suggestions for further research.
