Research On The Social Integration Of The Highly Educated Youth Migrant Population In Shanghai

The current society is reforming at high speed.With a sharp increase of floating population,the social security of migrant workers and their children,public service supply,urbanization problems became the focus of reform and research.As making a contribution to urban construction and the economic and social development as migrant workers,the white-collar immigrants with higher level of education were not taken seriously for the residence and social integration in Shanghai.Shanghai do a lot of works in attracting and retaining migrant youth.Unfortunately,due to various factors such as institution,culture,and personality,migrant youth cannot enjoy the same civil rights as citizens.Whether the social action or the social identity of migrant youth,they are definitely different from citizens.As a result,it is hard for migrant workers to integrate into the urban society.The social integration of migrant youth is not just a simple process of labor migration.It is a process of "the city adapts",in which migrant youth should adapt themselves to the political,economic,social and cultural aspects of city life.In the first part of this essay,it reviews relevant researches of domestic and foreign countries about migrant and social integration of floating population.Besides,this essay analyzes the living conditions of migrant youth and factors which are negative to their social integration by questionnaires and interviews.As a result,the author finds that it is because of non-equalization of public services that hinders the process of social integration.Since migrant youth cannot enjoy equal public services which include the services of employment,housing,education,technical training,and social security with citizens,it is hard for migrant workers and citizens to feel close to each other.Migrant youth do not feel they are belonging to city.Under these circumstances,it is not conducive to the transfer and urbanization of rural labor force.Thus,in order to reach a successful result of social integration of migrant youth,this essay not only takes lessons from foreign experiences,but also provides some suggestions like transforming the government concept,reforming related systems,increasing the financial investment,an innovating the provision models of public services,etc.
