With the deepening development of knowledge economy and network economy,technological innovation is accelerating,innovation as the engine of economic development and an important driving force,has become the key to determine the success or failure of enterprise competition.As an important part of the national economy,China's high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises are faced with pressing demand for innovation and limited pressure on innovative resources.Knowledge is the basic element of enterprise innovation,enterprises should not be limited to the use of existing knowledge but to continuous innovation to achieve new knowledge acquisition and accumulation.Through knowledge search,companies can expand and update their knowledge base,and better deal with the high cost,high complexity and other issues in technology development process.Innovation is the reorganization of existing knowledge elements,so knowledge base characteristics will affect the organization of technology search and knowledge integration process.Therefore,how to develop an effective knowledge search strategy according to the characteristics of their own knowledge is an important issue for enterprise development.Based on the status quo of small and medium-sized enterprises in China,this study explores the influence of knowledge search scope and knowledge search depth on the innovation capability of high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises in China's electronic equipment manufacturing industry from the perspective of organizational search.In addition,the characteristics of enterprise knowledge base are introduced as the adjustment variables,and the adjustment effect of knowledge complementarity and knowledge substitution on the process of knowledge search strategies affecting enterprise innovation capability is discussed.On the basis of theoretical analysis,this paper constructs the relationship model between knowledge search strategy(search scope,search depth),knowledge base and enterprise innovation ability,then makes use of panel data of 88 high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises in China's electronic equipment manufacturing industry for empirical research.The empirical results show that both scope and depth of knowledge search have an inverted U-shaped relationship with SMEs' innovation capability.In the process of search breadth affecting the innovation capability,the knowledge complementarity plays negative moderating role,but the positive effect of knowledge substitutability are only partially supported by the data.The knowledge substitutability negatively moderate the impact of search depth on innovation capability,but the moderating effect of knowledge complementarity do not work.This study has a great inspiration for high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises to fully understand the role of their knowledge base in the process of search innovation,to solve the problem of innovation decision-making,to promote enterprise innovation,to improve innovation ability and realize sustainable development of enterprises.
