Xuzhou,where the single coal-resource-based city in Jiangsu province,is an important coal production city in China.The local coal industry have made a huge contribution to the national economic construction.Meanwhile,the coal industry have influenced several aspects of Xuzhou,such as economy,culture and city pattern.However,coal companies suspend coal mining on account of the depletion of coal resources since the 21st century.In consequence of the failure of coal companies,industrial heritage is considered as a creator and witness of the development of coal industry in Xuzhou,which values in diverse sides,such as history,culture,society and humanity.Therefore,industrial heritage is necessary to be protected and reused.In spite of the raising attention and study to the value of industrial heritage,the limited function of the structure and the historical building appearance are difficult to meet the demands of modern city in recent years.Thus,the protection and reuse of industrial heritage requires more effort and investment.The thesis is guided by the concept of architectural recycling focusing on the strategies and methods of reusing coal mining industrial heritages.It can be provided as a reference for improving recycling access of industrial heritages through the renewal design practice of Quantai mine.The research concentrates on four aspects including status description,value evaluation,theoretical research and relating case design.First of all,six closed coal mine have been selected for field search.Analyzing the preservation condition and present situation for each closed coal mine to summarize the characteristics in Xuzhou.Secondly,the studying case of Quantai coal mine in Xuzhou would be a major component through the overall research for value evaluation.Thus the following aspect of classification of industrial heritage can be based on fact.Thirdly,in order to conclude the reuse pattern and specific methods of renewal design,the characteristics and meaning of architectural recycling would be investigated and the advantages of reusing industrial heritage would be analyzed.In conclusion,under the guidance of the concept of architectural recycling,combining the associated research of Quantai coal mine in Xuzhou,several case design are able to be completed from various aspects including site planning,specific architectural design.
