More and more foreign students are interested in Chinese.Moreover,the number of people studying in China is increasing year by year.For teaching second language,it is very important for learners to listen and speak as much as they can.The ultimate goal of learning a foreign language is to communicate and freely use communicative skills in a real speaking environment in the proper way without any obstacles.For most of the Polish learners one of the most difficult languages to learn is Chinese.In the view of the difficulties and problems with Chinese language to Polish learners,the author will compare the four commonly used oral teaching methods:translation method,direct method,listening and speaking teaching method and Callan teaching method.In this research,the author mostly underlines the Callan teaching method.Through the six months of teaching practice,20 to 60 years old Polish learners were researched.All of them were studying Chinese language by using Callan teaching method.This research verifying if the Callan teaching method is helpful and can be used to learn Chinese spoken language.Moreover,the research also represents if the Callan teaching method is effective enough for Polish learners and if by using this teaching method can be solved Polish students' difficulties with proper pronunciation and tones.This research also proves that the Callan teaching method can be used not only to teach Polish students English but also other,exotic foreign languages like for example Chinese language.In addition to the introduction and the theory,this article mainly includes three chapters:The first chapter is the analysis of the current situation of studying Chinese language to Polish learners,including teaching environment,habits and culture,teaching objectives and connected with them problems.The second chapter summarizes the four different teaching methods of teaching foreign spoken language,which focuses on the Callan teaching method,the history of this method,the specific features of this method,its advantages and disadvantages.The third and fourth chapters are the key contents of the full research.Through the questionnaire survey at the beginning and at the end of the teaching period,the author's experiment of using the Callan method to teach Polish students oral Chinese is presented in details.It is concluded that the usage of the Callan method to teach Polish learners is effective in spoken Chinese.Learners can not only recognize the correct tones of the words,but also be able to read and understand the content of learning.At the same time,the learners have achieved the results that the author could not foresee:they can learn the basic Chinese characters through the Callan method and be able to read the simple sentences by themselves.In conclusion,the Callan method has a positive effect on Polish learners' oral Chinese.This study fills a blank for Polish students who want to learn and improve oral Chinese language.
