| With the development of globalization,cultural exchanges between China and the west become increasingly frequent.Chinese novel,as an authentic depiction of real life,carries the life of the mass and thus plays a vital role in cross-cultural communications.As a result,the translation of Chinese novel is also endowed with great significance.For various reasons,however,English translation of Chinese novel has received scant attention with few English translation versions of modern or contemporary novels or stories.There are even fewer ways for young writers to spread their works in English.The English translation of Chinese novel,hence,is extraordinarily crucial.As English translation of Chinese novel is of pivotal importance,the author of this thesis has translated the Chinese short story Wonderful Nights under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory.With analyses of difficulties and puzzles in translating Wonderful Nights,the thesis discusses the translation of words,sentences and dialogues.The employed translation strategies include domestication and foreignization;the used translation methods contain literal translation,free translation and adaptation translation;the utilized translation skills embrace word conversion,amplification and combination etc.This thesis can be divided into six parts.The first part is about task description which introduces the text of translation program,including its background,characteristics and reasons of choosing the text;the second part is task process,recording the pre-translation preparation,translation process and after-translation checking;the third and fourth parts are literature review and theoretical framework which introduce research status of scholars both at home and aboard on novel translation and communicative translation;the fifth part analyzes case studies from the three perspectives,namely,words,sentences and dialogues,which is the key point of this thesis;and the final part is the conclusion and feelings about this program. |
