This is a report on English-Chinese translation of Australian short fiction Happy New Year, which is written by Australian poet and writer Glen Phillips. The setting of the story is Beijing in the 1980s,an Australian engaged couple joined in a tour group and came to visit China, they ran into some troubles in the beginning, but then they visited some scenic spots and historical sites and celebrated the new year in China. There are four parts in this report, including translation task description, translation process description, translation case analysis and translation practice conclusion. The third part is the main part of the report, which includes translation difficulties and solutions.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the translator discussed the translation of words and phrases and the translation of character description, and applies semantic extension,domestication,four-word phrases and sentence restructuring.Through the translation practice, the translator realized the difficulties in literary translation, the guiding role of Skopos Theory to the practice of translation, and understood that it's still necessary to make a great effort to become a qualified translator. It is hoped that the translation practice report can provide some reference for literary translators.
