This is a report on the Chinese-English consecutive interpretation practice,which is based on the speech of China's development opportunities and opening up after joining the WTO by Long Yongtu,who is the former Vice Minister of national foreign trade and economic cooperation,Secretary General of Boao forum for Asia.It lasts for 52 minutes.It tells about the status of China's economic development since China joined the World Trade Organization,the trend of China's economic development,brand concept and how to grasp the period of strategic opportunities.The content is closely related to China's economic development.The writer analyzes the interpretation process to summarize the difficulties in the interpreting practice,and further explores the proper strategies to solve these problems.This is a live presentation with full preparation including speech draft,thus it has corresponding features such as long sentences and incomplete sentences,repetition between sentences and some humorous points.It involves many political and economic backgrounds,government policies,and many professional vocabularies.These have become the difficulties in this interpretation.The writer uses strategies such as dissembling information,reconstructing sentence pattern,synthesization and omission to maintain fluency,accuracy and proper dictation in such interpretation.During the interpreting practice,with the guidance of the functional equivalence,the writer tries to find words of target language which is equivalent to the connotation of the source language to convey the information in the process of interpreting.The writer makes an analysis from two aspects.From the words,the writer summarizes the interpreting tips of terminology,Chinese specific terms and conjunctions.For the sentences,the writer focuses on how to divide them into several short sense-groups which are easy to be understood and interpreted and the interpreting of the long and complex sentences.This report aims to improve the quality of interpretation by adopting different strategies for different problems and by analyzing cases from the text.The interpreter hopes this report can bring useful inspiration and reference for other interpreters.
