Post-Compulsory Education in England: Choices and Implications, the source text of this translation practice, attempts to provide new reflections for the UK government to resolve problems such as low social mobility and a long tail of underachievers by properly scrutinizing the complex system of England post-compulsory education. The source text is an academic informative text characterized by the employment of rigid and professional terminologies and complex sentences.Functional equivalence theory serves as the supporting theoretical guidance;the theory advocates rendering of information from the source language to the target language and equivalence of meaning, semantics and style should be valued and maximum reliability of the translation is the ultimate goal.Under this theoretical guidance, the translator employs several translation techniques, including omission, conversion, splitting and amplification. The translation of this study provides a practical guidance for us to tackle similar issues in our educational system. In addition, this translation practice has elevated translator's ability to conduct communicative translation and deepened her cognitive understanding of the importance of faithfulness and expressiveness in translating informative texts. This report consists of four sections. The first section demonstrates the background of translation project and its significance;the second part explains the research background, including the source text and its linguistic futures;the third part analyzes the translation difficulties and translation methods and the last part is a conclusion about the whole translation report.
