For centuries,opera has been one of the greatest shows.As a report of English to Chinese consecutive interpreting,this report describes an interpreting task of BBC's Lucy Worsley's Opera Night,a two-part series that explore the history and music of key opera cities,with the target audience of 38 freshmen of National Opera Performances Major,Henan University,aiming to help them build a comprehensive understanding of Western opera,enjoy the charm of opera,therefore enhance the aesthetic ability and strengthen national pride.The documentary involved in this interpreting practice has no Chinese subtitle,and no relevant interpretation practice has been conducted before.In the light of Daniel Gile's Effort Model,this paper attempts to analyze the interpretation process by probing into the listening and analysis effort,the memory effort,the note-taking effort and the coordination effort.Potential problems and corresponding solving tactics are pointed out when analyzing the cases according to each effort.The report involves four chapters.First,it points out the source of interpreting task,the background and features of this interpreting practice;then,it describes project preparations,interpreting process and interpreting quality;the third chapter elaborately analyzes some typical cases under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model and describes how the author adopts proper methods to conduct the consecutive interpretation;the last chapter draws a conclusion on the interpreting practice and gives some suggestions.
