A Project Management Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Beautiful Nostalgia:Traditional Chinese Villages

The translation material in this project is the Chinese version of Beautiful Nostalgia:Traditional Chinese Villages written by the professors of the School of Arts and Design in Beijing Jiaotong University.The book includes ten chapters describing the architecture of more than ten traditional villages in China,showing the broad and profound Chinese culture.In order to spread the traditional Chinese architecture to people all over the world,a translational project was set up,commissioned by the teachers of the School of Arts and Design and the China Construction Industry Press.To carry out the project successfully,a translation team was set up by four students majoring in linguistics and translation from the School of Languages and Communication Studies.Under the guidance of the tutor,they completed the translation task of the whole book(400,000 Chinese characters).The author writes this report on the basis of her own Chinese to English translation of the Introduction,Chapter Six and Chapter Seven(100,000 characters in total)of which she was in charge and the translation project management process.The present report makes a detailed description of the whole project according to the three stages,preparations for the translation project,the translation process and post-translation matters.As a team member of this project,the author describes the characteristics of the project from the perspective of project management and adopts the theory of text type to analyze the problems encountered in the process of translation practice,and finally puts forward the corresponding solutions according to the characteristics of translation materials.The outstanding feature of the project is the consistency training,including the constancy training for translators and the unification of the expressions as well as the uniform translation style,conducts the quality control and time control,to ensure the successful completion of the whole translation project.Finally,it summarizes the whole translation project and proposes some improvement measures for the shortcomings of the project,which can be used for the reference in the future translation project management.
