A Report On The Translation Of Bullying In The California Community College System And The Human Resources Response(Chapters 1-2)

This is a report on the translation of California community college system and human resource response: The case for comity,courtesy,and civility,a doctoral dissertation written by Hampton,Terri Lynne in 2006.Workplace bullying usually occurs between colleagues,the superiors and the subordinates,including the bosses to be isolated by the subordinates and so on.Obviously,it is very harmful for the enterprise itself.This phenomenon exists all over the world.A pervasive bullying environment can severely affect the morale and productivity of the employees and prevent companies from attracting and retaining talented employees.The original thesis is a study on workplace bullying at California Community College and the reaction from its Human Resources Department.This report is based on the translation of its first and the second chapters.There was no translated version on the internet when I selected the material.The thesis takes California Community College bullying as a starting point,to discuss how the human resource department reacted towards the bullying.Since office bullying is also a serious problem in China,this topic was typically selected in the hope of providing the Chinese human resource departments with some research achievements so as to help them solve similar problems;and to familiarize Chinese readers and office managers with such materials,to offer some ideas and references for them.This translation practice not only assists the translator to have a deeper understanding of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory,Contrast between English and Chinese,but also helps the translator clarify the direction of future efforts.It is difficult to do with translating,because a qualified translator should master translation theory and be proficient in using of English and Chinese.
