In order to provide a better interpreting service and match the wide range of demands of whispered interpreting(WI)in business life,interpreters should keep improving their relevant WI capabilities so that they can be possibly deal with all kinds of difficulties and emergencies met on the field.In light of that,based on the WI practice in Federal-Mogul Wuhan plant,the author does this research to explore how to distribute efforts in a balanced way so as to make interpreters fulfill their interpreting tasks in a smoother way.Under the guidance of Gile's effort model,the author mainly analyzes some barriers she has met in doing WI at the staff training in Federal-Mogul Wuhan plant.Furthermore,the corresponding coping strategies are also summarized in this report.According to Gile's effort distribution model in simultaneous interpreting,the author makes a brief analyzation of five efforts needed in whispered interpreting: listening and analysis effort,memory effort,screen-reading effort,production effort,and coordination effort.In WI,because of unbalanced effort distribution,interpreters sometimes will meet with various barriers and difficulties influencing their interpreting quality.Therefore,the author lists some common problems caused by unbalanced effort distribution and also elaborates their corresponding coping strategies in the report for interpreters using as a reference to have a better WI.As for the problems caused by unbalanced effort distribution,the author makes analyzations for them,like accents,professional knowledge and terms,dense information,figures,and long working hours.Additionally,the author also provides coping strategies for each of them,such as finding phonics rules,gist interpreting,notetaking,and omission.Through these analyzations and findings,the author hopes it can provide some references for interpreters in their future WI tasks and have a better interpreting performance.
