An Analysis Of Consecutive Interpretation Techniques Under The Guidance Of Adaptation Theory

As a special form of translation,interpretation has gained more and more attention among public.Moreover,with the closer cooperative relations between China and other countries in the world,the importance of interpretation is more than ever emphasized.Consecutive interpretation,as a dynamic communicative process and form,can facilitate the communication of different parties as long as interpreters are able to adopt appropriate interpretation techniques and strategies with the differences in various contexts,communicators' identities,cultural backgrounds and so on bearing in mind.In this report,the author makes a consecutive interpretation of an interview,Dialogue on BRICS.With the BRICS Summit held in September 2017 as the background,this interview has discussed the prospects of cooperation among BRICS countries and the problems during their trade and business.Thus,the research on the material is of practical significance.This report is composed of the introduction to the project,the analysis of difficulties and suggested solutions as well as the reflections.To solve the difficulties,the author proposed suggested solutions from the perspective of adaptation theory.The adaptation theory was put up by Verschueren in 1987.It believes that languages possess the properties of variability,negotiability and adaptability,and the adaptability of context,structures,and salience should be investigated.Interpretation is a dynamic process of making linguistic choices,and the adaptation theory covers a comprehensive aspect of language use,which makes it possible that it can provide guidance for interpreting.As a result,the author proposes suggested interpretation techniques based on the four points of the adaptation theory so as to solve the problems and improve the quality of interpretation.The project also enhances the author's ability in solving difficulties in interpretation practices and help the author acquire deep understanding about the application of the adaptation theory and interpretation techniques so that the author can enhance the ability in doing consecutive interpretations.
