The Mishearing Problem In E-C Consecutive Interpreting And Its Coping Strategies

As a report on mishearing problem in English to Chinese interpreting,this paper describes the author's interpreting practice in 2016 American Medical Health Innovative Enterprises Road Show in China.Because mishearing problems arose easily in this interpreting practice,so by taking the author's own interpreting practice as an analysis object,the author hopes to offer some solutions to deal with mishearing problems and give some enlightenment to interpreting beginners who have also met with or will meet the same problem.During this interpreting practice,the author found that speaker's speed,listener's inadequate words and weak sensitivity to certain words are top three obstacles that caused mishearing problems in this interpreting practice.Further more,according to different interpreting processes,interpreter beginners could adopt different coping strategies,namely coping strategies before and after the interpreting process.This practice report emphasizes the importance of positive psychological suggestions and adequate pre-task preparation before interpreting process.Strategies to improve performance after the interpreting process include vocabulary accumulation,effort distribution training,auditory training and predicting training.
