This practice report is based on an English-Chinese translation practice of a book,Accounting Ethics.Growing out of the teaching experience of three authors, the book develops some discussion of the accounting decision making in social contexts and the ethics of professional accounting by illustrating some cases of listed companies in America. The translation task was one of the translation projects of my tutor who was responsible for it.Therefore,I was assigned to translate the first and second chapters of the book, and the Chinese version was accepted.Since the book is rich in different professional knowledge,it is worth making an analytical summary of what I have gained from this practice. The practice report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter gives the description of the translation task on aspects of source, content, requirements and performance. The second chapter illustrates the whole process by dividing it into three parts according to the chronological order, including pre-translation preparation, translation implementation and post-translation revision. The third chapter details the preparations for translation, including collection of parallel texts, analysis of the source text, the grasping of translation requirements of the informative text, and the preparation of translation tools. The fourth chapter is the core of this thesis in which the translation techniques employed are explained in details from the levels of words and sentences. The translation of words refers to the translation of terminology, addition and conversion. The translation of sentences consists of passive sentences, attributive sentences, and long or complex sentences. When dealing with these sentences, the cases analyze the diverse translation techniques employed such as splitting, recasting and division. The fifth chapter gives a summary of what the translator has gained by presenting the difficulties encountered in the translation practice.
