A Practice Report On The English Translation Of “A View On Big Data In Energy Internet”

Recent years have witnessed the increasing domestic and international exchanges in the field of big data in Energy Internet,thus higher requirements for the translation in this field have been put forward.Since big data technology in Energy Internet is still in the initial stage,relevant translation studies at home and abroad are rare.Therefore,the translation of papers in the field of big data in Energy Internet can contribute to the international exchanges in the field.Based on “Big Data in Energy Internet”,this paper discusses and analyzes some typical cases under the guidance of syntactic equivalence theory.This report is composed of four parts: firstly,the source,background,and significance of the study;secondly,the source-text analysis and the preparation of terminology,theory,and so on;thirdly,case study of English translation;fourthly,problems and reflections.The third part,the case study of English translation,is the core of this report,which mainly discusses the author's experience and views on translating the scientific and technical text,with syntactic equivalence theory as a guidance,from the following three aspects.First of all,in terms of translating long sentences,Chinese run-on sentences are supposed to be split according to the internal logic,and long sentences with a single subject in Chinese are supposed to be reprocessed,in order to achieve the functional equivalence of sentence structure.Moreover,in the aspect of voice,Chinese sentences with no subject and idiomatic expressions are translated into passive sentences according to the context in order to express the meaning more clearly and reflect the objectivity of scientific and technical papers.Last but not least,punctuation marks are translated according to the functions and the respective code of the target language.For example,the punctuation mark denoting parallelism in Chinese is translated into a corresponding punctuation mark or a corresponding phrase in English in order to comply with the English reading habits and achieve syntactic function equivalence.It is concluded that in C-E translation of scientific papers,translators need to use translation tools and translation techniques appropriately in pursuit of syntactic functional equivalence instead of limiting to the structure,voice,or punctuation marksof sentences.Hopefully,the report can contribute to the English translation of scientific papers and to the international exchanges in the field of big data in Energy Internet.
