| This translation report is based on the introduction and the first chapter of Archie Brown’s The Myth of the Strong Leader. The book begins with a discussion of several different types of leadership and explains the leadership needed in the new era.The source text features both expressive text and informative text.Taking into account the characteristics of the text, the translator must not only completely and accurately convey the content of the souce text, but also make the translation easy to understand. The nouns,non-finite form and comparative degree sentences are typical problems. The translator cited a few examples to provide detailed analysis and explanation for the above problems. The common feature of the word problem is that if words are literally translated, not only can the original content be inaccurately conveyed, but also the translation is confusing. Therefore, the translator needs to proceed from the context and adopt translation strategies such as semantic extension and conversion of the parts of the speech to choose the appropriate word. The problem of the comparative degree sentence is that the sentence is longer and the structure is more complex. It is necessary to flexibly adopt translation strategies such as splitting and reversion as well as adjustment of the sentence order to make the translation smooth and coherent.Through this translation practice and report writing, the translator has a deeper understanding of political texts, hoping to combine problems encountered by myself to summarize the corresponding solutions and suggestions,so as to provide reference for other translators of such texts in the future. |
