Translation Of Compound Words With Hyphen And Impersonal Subject Sentences

This thesis is a practice report on English to Chinese translation of Chapter Two in Frommer's Thailand(9^th Edition).Frommer's Thailand is one of the Frommer's travel guide series,which is a travel-oriented text.The book provides a comprehensive and detailed introduction to Thailand tourism.The translation material covers Thailand's history,religion,culture,architecture,geography,diet,travel tips,etc.The difficulties of translation mainly lie in the processing of hyphenated compound words and impersonal subject sentences.Guided by Newmark's translation method of semantic translation and communicative translation,taking the target reader as the center,the translator adopts corresponding translation methods for related issues in order to satisfy the needs of the target audience.For hyphenated compound words,literal translation and liberal translation are adopted;for impersonal subject sentences,method of converting impersonal subjects into objects,clauses or adverbials are adopted.
