A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of Financial News In Financial Review

With the rapid development of the society,financial news becomes indispensable in people’s life as an important channel of learning about economic trends and policies.However,the quality of translation is usually low,owing to the differences in languages and the incompetence of translators.This report is based on the Chinese translation of financial news,excerpted from the Australian Financial Review(https://www.afr.com)from June to December,2018.It is an informative text,with accurate,concise and formal language features.According to communicative translation theory of Peter Newmark,in translating informative texts,translators should focus on the effect of expressing information correctly and naturally and try to make sure that the translation has the same effect as its source text.This report adopts the method of case analysis and focuses on problems and solutions.In the translation of headlines,the translator uses the methods of omission,amplification and coordinate clause to solve the problems of lack of conciseness and attraction.On lexical translation,the translator solves the problems of translating proper nouns and identification of polysemy meaning by using the methods of searching the parallel texts and selecting the meanings according to the context.In the translation of sentences,the main difficulties are the conversion between active voice and passive voice,coherence of extended simple sentences and keeping or removing the dashes in sentences.The methods of paraphrase and reordering the sentence sequence are mainly employed.Besides,in the translation of figure of speech,the author employs the literal translation,paraphrase methods to settle the problems in translation,such as poor readability and culture default.The author hopes this report can provide some references for similar translation practice activities.
