Report On C-E Translation Of The Government Work Report Of Lanxi: Difficulties And Solutions In Translating Complicated Attributives

Based on the translation practice of The Government Work Report of Lanxi,the author analyzes difficulties found in the translating process and puts forward solutions to solve the difficulties.In the translation project,the author finds that it is very difficult to translate complicated attributives that are widely used in government work report.The author classifies the difficulties into following types:(1)Translating non-clausal attributives with more than three lexical and phrasal modifiers,(2)Translating attributives with subject-predicate structures,(3)Translating attributives with predicate-object structures.Solutions put forward in this report are guided by Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory in which translating consists in reproducing the closest natural equivalent in receptor language of the source language message.After exploring difficulties in translating The Government Work Report of Lanxi,the author works hard to find out corresponding methods to solve them:(1)Postposition of some descriptive attributives,this method means to put some descriptive attributives behind the head noun after preposing the restrictive attributives.(2)Restructuring of the subject-predicate structures,this method specifically means that attributives with subject-predicate structures are translated by restructuring the subject-predicate structures into a clause put behind the head noun.(3)Reorganization of the predicate-object structures,this method specifically means that attributives with predicate-object structures are translated by reorganizing the predicate-object structures into preposition-gerund structures put behind the head noun.Through the C-E translation practice and the exploration of the solutions to the difficulties,the author gains a deeper understanding of political texts,improves the translation ability,and accumulates experience for future translation.
