Translation Of Long Sentences In English Agricultural Literature From The Perspective Of Adaption Theory

Under the background of world economic globalization and China's development strategy of "One Belt and One Road" proposed by Chinese president Xi Jinping,the translation of English agricultural literature plays a more and more important role in the enhancement of our country's science and technology,as well as the management of soft power.In today's Internet Age,further improvement of the translating quality of agricultural literature is subject to the study of language features and exploration of translating methods.English agricultural literature is characterized by long sentences,so it's important for us to translate them well.Till now,many researches have been done in the translation of long English sentences,but in terms of long sentences in English agricultural literature,especially in agricultural economic literature,more study should be further done.Based on an article translated by myself and under the guidance of Adaption Theory,this thesis aims to discuss and summarize the method of translating long sentences in English agricultural literature.According to Verschueren's Adaptation Theory,the usage of language is a discontinuous process of choosing.Dynamic adaptation during the process of choosing can be reflected in three aspects:the adaptation of time,the limitation of different contexts and the flexible change of language's linear structure,so this theory is of great significance for guiding the translation.From the perspective of adaptation theory,analyzing the context and structure of those long sentences,and along with the contrast between English and Chinese languages,we can learn more about appropriate translation strategies and methods used to adapt to different situations.As a result,the translation version can be more rigorous and fluent,and can accurately convey the meaning of the original English long sentences,and a better communicative purpose can be reached.The discussion and summary based on my translation suggest that we can use the following three approaches to translate long sentences in agriculture English literature under the guidance of Adaptation Theory:functional adaptation of sentence's component,adjusting adaptation of sentence's order and flexible adaptation of sense-group's segmentation.Translating long sentences in English agriculture literature under the guidance of Adaptation Theory helps us improve the quality of translation,provide materials for translation teaching and offer references for further studies.Meanwhile,this thesis also proves that this theory is of great significance in providing theoretical basis in guiding practical translation of English agricultural literature.
