On Interpretation Strategies From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

With the rapid development of economic globalization,international conferences are becoming more and more frequently,thus calling more urgently for conference interpretation.On international occasions such as international conferences,business talks,industry forums and other important international issues,high-quality interpretation is required,which determines whether the communication between the partners is smooth,and whether the interests of each side can be met,or even whether the country's external image could be properly projected and future development be ensured.Therefore,it is of great political and academic significance to achieve high-quality interpretation of the speeches by Chinese state leaders.Interpretive Theory was put forward by Seleskovitch Danica,a world-renowned theorist and interpreter.Its essence lies in making a distinction between the language meaning and the non-language meaning.What interpreters should convey is the non-language symbols.The study focuses on the triangular model of Interpretive Theory,that is,comprehension,de-verbalization,re-expression.At the same time,the author also explores the prior criteria for interpretation: faithfulness.This standard helps the author analyze the corpus under the guidance of the theoretical framework.Based on the interpreting text of President Xi's speech at 2017 Xiamen BRICS Conference,the features of the texts addressed by state leaders and the points of agreement between speech interpretation and Interpretive Theory,seven interpreting strategies are concluded,namely,explanation,simplification,lexicon conversion,syntactic processing,information integration,restructuring and addition.Through this research,the author finds that Interpretive Theory emphasizes that the interpreter should combine his own cognitive supplements in the process of leaving the source language shell,which has a direct guiding effect on the practice of interpretation and inspires interpreters to better control the interpreting process.Finally,the author hopes that the study can provide some significant reference to flexible application of Interpretive Theory and interpreting tasks at large.Besides,it is expected that the study will make minor contributions to interpreting skills and quality.
