In the process of translating English to Chinese, the attributive clause is both important and difficult. The attributive clauses in English have always been compared with the attributes in Chinese. But in practice, they are two different structures. The concept of attributive clauses in English is defined by its syntactic function.Besides, the role of the attributive clauses is not limited to the attributive function. In fact, this structure, which is indispensable for the completeness of the whole sentence,is a supplement and indication to the main clause and plays a role of transmitting auxiliary information. If the translators are limited to the form of the attributive clauses and give no considerations of the semantic meanings, translating all attributive clauses into the attributive structure in Chinese, then the translated text can be obscure and difficult to understand, and the readers may be confused. The difference between Chinese and English triggered the author's thinking on how to better translate attributive clauses in English.Based on the introduction and the excerpts of the first chapter of The Color of Money:Black Banks and the Racial Wealth Gap,the author explores the methods for translating attributive clauses, and strategies for fully expressing their meaning and emotions. This book, covering politics, economy and history, tells the story of the black banks through which the black communities want to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor and accumulate wealth.Formal and serious, this book also contains many attributive clauses. So the translator believes that it would be a good choice to analyze attributive clauses through the selected chapters in this book.Based on the function of the attributive clauses in the sentence, the translator introduces five translation methods and illustrates how to apply these five methods into translation practice separately through case studies. For some cases, the translator gives different translations and selects the most suitable one through specific analysis.Through the analysis of the translation methods of attributive clauses, this paper interprets the rich functions and meanings of them in sentences.
