Disfluent output is quite universal in the process of speech production,which may cause confusion in logic and meaning.Disfluent output includes pause,repetition and self-correction,among which,disfluent pause can be divided into filled pause and silent pause.Repetition includes repetition of syllables,phrases,word strings or sentences.Self-correction consists of correction of speech,information and sentence pattern.Based on Effort Model,this thesis will aims at causes of disfluent output and some solutions to help interpreting learners avoid disfluent output properly and serve some ideas for interpreting teaching.Based on Effort Model,this thesis explores the main factors lead to disfluent output in C-E Cl process through empirical study and survey study.Based on Gile's Effort Model,the author tries to study three questions.First,how does a student interpreter's effort-coordination capability affect his or her disfluent output in C-E CI?Second,what causes may lead to disfluent output in C-E Cl from the perspective of Effort Model?Third,how to minimize disfluent output in C-E Cl on the basis of Effort Model?In this research,13 Grade one and 12 Grade two postgraduate student interpreters who major in English Interpreting in SNNU are invited to participate in the experiments.Step One,invite student interpreters to answer questionnaires designed according to Effort Model and collect questionnaires;Step Two,implement the effort-coordination experiment and collect experimental data;Step Three,carry out the C-E Cl experiment and collect experimental data like recordings and notes;Step Four,analyze the experimental data and compare the effort-coordination capability of the subjects from experimental group(all subjects accepted effort-coordination training)and control group(no subjects accepted effort-coordination training),and then compare the total disfluent output of the EG subjects and CG subjects so as to figure out how one's effort-coordination capability affects his or her disfluent output in C-E CI.In addition,compare the results of questionnaire,experiment A(effort-coordination experiment)and experiment B(C-E CI experiment)to explore some possible causes of disfluent output and solutions to properly reduce disfluent output in C-E CI.Through the experiment and experimental analysis,the author obtained the following conclusions:In general,improving one's total capabilities of listening&analysis,short-term memory,note-taking and effort-coordination is surely helpful to decrease disfluent output in C-E CI process.And the progress in one's effort-coordination capability can directly help with reducing the disfluent output in C-E CI process.Based on Effort Model,the author finally concludes that the main causes of disfluent output are insufficiency in total capacities of listening and analysis,short-term memory,note-taking and effort-coordination or failure to properly allocate efforts to multitasks.On the one hand,Enhancing the total capacity of listening and analysis,short-term memory and note-taking can help reduce efforts required for each task in C-E CI process and thus reduce disfluent output.On the other hand,the improvement of one's effort-coordination capability can be greatly helpful to balance and coordinate one's limited efforts to manage multitasks in C-E CI so as to minimize disfluent output and maximize one's interpreting capability.
