E-C Translation Methods Of "Culture-Loaded Words"

The research text of the translator's report is the novel The Great Alone,and the research content is the Chinese translation methods of culture-loaded words excerpted from the text.Culture-loaded words refer to distinct words with deep cultural imprint,national characteristics and connotations.These sorts of words carry specific national cultural information and embody profound national culture.They are the direct and indirect reflection of domestic culture in language.When the information carried by some culture-loaded words in the source language is not fully equivalent in the target language,the translator often needs to adopt appropriate translation methods to convey the smooth and expressive information to the target language readers.The translator considered seriously how to translate the culture-loaded words in the book,hoping to select the most appropriate translation method to achieve the purpose of cultural communication.Then,translator found that many culture-loaded words could be translated in the same method.In addition,translators found that when translating culture-loaded words,several translation methods were most frequently used,which can be used as common methods in the translation of culture-loaded words.In the research of this practice report,the translator introduced several common translation methods,namely literal translation and literal translation with notes,free translation,transliteration and transliteration with notes,and additional translation,and analyzed these methods with some culture-loaded words in one to four chapters of this book.Therefore,the translator concluded that these four translation methods can be taken into consideration in the first place when translating culture-loaded words,especially those in novels.The translator expects that this practice report can provide some reference for the readers who study culture-loaded words,especially the Chinese translation methods of culture-loaded words in novels.At the same time,the translator hope translators can realize that improper use of culture-loaded words often leads to misunderstanding in cross-cultural communication,so translators play an extremely valuable role in cross-cultural communication.
