The economic globalization tide becomes fiercer as time goes by,leading to ever-increasing cross-border business activities.In such a case,many Chinese companies have begun to set up affiliate companies in foreign countries to expand their business,during which the translation work serves as a bridge that overcomes the language barrier and lays a solid foundation for successful transnational economic and trade activities.The source text of this E-C translation report is a business plan of a Chinese corporation for further market development in a foreign country.The plan focuses on the feasibility of this activity involving company information,project introduction,industry and market analysis,competition analysis,marketing strategies,personnel plan and financial forecast as well.Following the translation of an English version of business plan into Chinese,the translator has analyzed the whole translation process in light of Peter Newmark's text typology.Newmark takes advantage of Katharina Reiss,Karl Buhler,Roman Jakobson and other people's views on language functions,and holds the view that language has six functions and six corresponding text types.Besides,Newmark raises two translation strategies(semantic translation and communicative translation)based on different text types.The Source Text is an informative text in accordance with Newmark's text typology.Unlike novels or other literary texts,the purpose of a business plan is to transmit information with concise language and formal format.Thus,the difficulty of this translation practice lies in readers' acceptance,which requires the translator to stay close to target readers instead of the source text writer.With the primary task of information transmission,the translator encountered many problems when trying to make the target readers' response the same with that of source text readers.And these problems always center around the translation of terms and sentences,and the pursuit of coherence,readability and accuracy in the target text.Therefore,the translator refers to Lian Shuneng's view on similarities and differences between English and Chinese,and makes the final translation a qualified one by correcting mistranslation,poorly written sentences and translationese in the first translation.The E-C translation of the business plan will be helpful for target readers to foresee the future prospects and potential risks of this going-out action,and also provides some suggestions for translation of similar texts.
