With the rapid development of China’s economy and the rising of the international status,interpretation plays a crucial role of bridge and link as an important communication tool.Interpreting is being used widely in all kinds of international meetings, press conferences, tradeand economic cooperation meetings, and other international activities. For the interpreters, it notonly means that stages are widened, but also needs higher request to them. How to interpret thelong sentences with complex structure and many clauses into English without missing informationis a tough task in Chinese-English consecutive interpretation.This thesis regards the record of Premier Li’s answer to reporters as study materials, aimingat dealing with the long sentences under the guidance of the interpretive theory in consecutiveinterpreting.This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one is background description of the study.Chapter two shows the preparation before consecutive interpreting. Chapter three explores thecauses of interpreting difficulties in long sentence interpretation in terms of the interpretive theory.I will mainly focus on the impact of the thinking mode on interpreting. Chapter Four discussesfive strategies of long sentences in consecutive interpretation. The last part summarized theharvests of this practical activity.In conclusion, the creation of the interpretive theory is the milestone of interpreting theorydevelopment. It unveiled the beginning of interpreting research under guidance of the certaintheory. This research explores the consecutive interpretation of long sentences by using strategiesincluding sentence segmentation, integrating key point, adding words or sentence,literal translation or free translation, and affective communication skills, etc. thus achieving theeffect of standard and faithful to the original meaning that the interpretive schools advocated.Meanwhile, it provides practice methods for trainers themselves. It is hoped to provide help forinterpretation learners.
